Living in this planet earth, which many calls home, is actually not a home. It is merely a temporary shelter, a place to ‘build’ and invest for a permanent home in a place called the hereafter, or yaumul akhirah.
Allah had reminded us, again and again in the Quran, the final revelation that the earth is only temporary.
“And indeed, the hereafter is better to you than the present…” (ad-Dhuha: 3)
What are they asking (one another about)? Concerning the Great News (day of Resurrection), about which they cannot agree. Verily, they shall soon (come to) know! Verily, verily they shall soon (come to) know. (an-Naba’: 1-5)
He also states that this world is only for us to invest, for our permanent place in the next life…
O you who believe! I shall I lead you to a bargain that will save you from a grievous Penalty? That you believe in Allah and His Messenger, and that ye strive (your utmost) in the Cause of Allah with your property and your persons: that will be best for you, if ye but knew!
Yet, many forget these reminders. This is because this world is so full of traps, and mankind is inclined to blindly fall into these traps, hence harvesting little, or none at all for his next life.
Well… what are the rewards of this so called investment? The reward is Allah’s pleasure, love and His Jannah. In a verse I love, Allah states:
“So Allâh saved them from the evil of that Day, and gave them Nadhrah (a light of beauty) and joy. And their recompense shall be Paradise, and silken garments, because they were patient. Reclining therein on raised thrones, they will see there neither the excessive heat of the sun, nor the excessive bitter cold, (as in Paradise there is no sun and no moon). And the shade thereof is close upon them, and the bunches of fruit thereof will hang low within their reach. And amongst them will be passed round vessels of silver and cups of crystal —Crystal-clear, made of silver. They will determine the measure thereof (according to their wishes). And they will be given to drink there of a cup (of wine) mixed with Zanjabîl (ginger). A spring there, called Salsabîl. (18) And round about them will (serve) boys of everlasting youth. If you see them, you would think them scattered pearls. And when you look there (in Paradise), you will see a delight (that cannot be imagined), and a great dominion. (20) Their garments will be of fine green silk and gold embroidery. They will be adorned with bracelets of silver, and their Lord will give them a pure drink. (And it will be said to them): "Verily, this is a reward for you, and your endeavor has been accepted."” (al-Insan: 11-22)
Well, do you want the reward? Are you willing to strive to get this superb reward? Hence, you MUST start investing.
But… what is there to invest? What should we do to invest? The investment is simple: just follow Allah’s order, in the Quran and Sunnah….
